What Inspires You – why do you do what you do?:
I am inspired by the odd and the perplexing; by the mystical and the enchanting. Words, ideas, and concepts inspire me so much. Music is my muse.
I would say in essence, life is my inspiration, the trials we face as people, the stories we tell, and the beauty that can be found even in the midst of darkness.
Can you describe the time when you first realized that creating was something you absolutely had to do? Why dolls?:
I never remember a time when I wasn't making my ideas come to life in some form. Creativity for me has always been almost a base instinct. The closest thing I can compare it to is thirst; it's like being so thirsty that you become restless and nothing quenches the feeling except for creation. My first creative venue was pencil and paper, I was always drawing everywhere I went. My school books and reading books were always drawn in, I would carry little note books or pieces of folded up paper in my pocket, and if I didn't have paper I would draw on my hands and arms. I was a quiet, pensive, and circumspect child and drawing helped me express myself in many ways that I couldn't do otherwise. I started sculpting when I was nine, I was at a friend's birthday party when I discovered I was really good at shaping clay. One of the events at her party was making things out of sculpey clay and baking them so we could take them home. After everyone had finished their creations, naturally we compared them. When all the girls saw mine they couldn't believe I had made it and kept asking me how I did it and if I could make something for them to take home too, needless to say I was quite popular that day. Afterward when I went home I asked my mom if I could get some clay and on my birthday I got my wish and besides a brief period during my apathetic teenage years I've never stopped sculpting since.

My hope
Through my art I long to portray the infinite wisdom and power of God, not because my art is so great that it could portray such greatness but because it is so small and meaningless in comparison to the work of our Creator's great and mighty hands. So many stand in awe of the creations I make with my hands yet they fail to look around and see the beauty that resides outside their very door; the immense wonders that our universe holds and how all these things were made for us and do indeed have an Eternal Creator. When someone visits my booth at a doll show or sees my artwork online they automatically know there was/is an Artist that created it, they praise me for the great job I've done and it puts a smile on my face; but why then when we take a stroll in the park, or swim in a vast ocean, or feel the warm sun on our skin, do we not joyfully praise our Mighty God and thank him for all the beauty He's given us? I hope that when people see my artwork they can praise my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in knowing that I am but a creation of His and the artwork that I produce however "awesome" it may be on this earth does not even reach the heel of His 'artwork'. I hope my artwork can stand as proof that there is a Creator that created us all, loves us, and wants a personal relationship with us.
